Guinness & Oysters is one of the festival’s most popular traditions each year, and it’s easy to see why.A huge thank you to Sive Minerals and BC Shellfish for once again sponsoring and organising this fantastic event during this year’s festival.Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Oratory, it was the perfect place to enjoy fresh oysters, a pint of Guinness, and soak up the festival atmosphere in the sun. During the festival, we were delighted to welcome

During the festival, we were delighted to welcome Tina O’Connell as our Artist in Residence. Working from a remarkable piece of beech wood salvaged from Daniel O’Connell Memorial Church, Tina transformed a piece of local heritage into a sculpture that tells another important story from our community’s past. It was a truly special part of the programme to watch the work evolve day by day, giving visitors a unique opportunity to experience the creative process from the first cuts in the timber to the finished sculpture. Seeing Tina at work brought the story behind the piece to life and was one of the highlights of this year’s festival.We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Jeffery O’Connor for so generously allowing us to use the Penal Church as a venue throughout the festival. Its unique setting provided the perfect space for Tina’s residency and for visitors to engage with her work as it unfolded.Our thanks also go to Ciarraí Art Nexus for organising the arts programme, and to our art sponsors, Sive Minerals and O’Driscolls Off Licence, whose support made this residency possible.Finally, we are delighted that „She Carries Them Home” will remain in Cahersiveen. Once the Community Centre renovation is complete, the sculpture will find its permanent home there, where we hope it will continue to inspire conversation and connect future generations with the rich heritage and stories of our community.Artist Statement by @tinaoconnell_artist One of my earliest memories is sitting between my grandfather’s legs in a currach while my father rowed us across to Inis Oírr for the Island Games. The sea has always been woven through my family history. Years later, I spent hours in a small caravan behind our house helping to process crab claws. Those experiences made me wonder about the generations of women and children before us whose hands quietly sustained the fishing industry.At the turn of the twentieth century, Cahersiveen was a thriving fishing port. Trains arrived at the quay to carry barrels of salted mackerel to London, yet behind this bustling trade were women whose work was rarely recorded.
